From a historical point of view, Antwerp can rightfully be placed at the genesis of the global diamond trade as we know it today. The city has since long been the stage for pioneers of the diamond industry, continuously developing as the centre of know-how and technical expertise. More than 550 years of diamond heritage is embodied in the slogan ‘Cut in Antwerp’, which for centuries has been and still is the diamond trademark for supreme quality and exquisite craftsmanship.
Today, Antwerp remains the capital of the world diamond trade.
The city is the world’s leading diamond trading centre, servicing buyers and sellers from all over the world who are either based in the city or frequent visitors.
More than 50 percent of the world’s polished diamonds and 80 percent of rough diamonds are traded in the city, and no other centre is able to provide a larger and more varied selection of diamonds.
