Founded in Antwerp in 1975, the International Gemological Institute (IGI) is currently the world’s largest independent laboratory for the identification, testing and grading of gemstones and fine jewellery. Every day, close to 600 experts examine more than 5,000 items in Antwerp, New York, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Tel Aviv, Los Angeles, Toronto, Calcutta, New Delhi, Dubai, Bangkok and Tokyo. IGI’s School of Gemmology has also taken its learning experience to Belgium, the USA, Italy, China, Thailand, Canada, Botswana, Dubai, Spain, Turkey, Egypt, Kuwait and many other countries. Taught in 10 different languages, IGI’s most popular courses include polished and rough diamonds, coloured stone identification, pearls, and jewellery design. For most students, the final goal is to gain the IGI Graduate Gemologist, or G.G. diploma, which is usually the starting point for a career in this exciting industry.
The IGI is an ISO 9001 and 17025-accredited worldwide organisation.
